The Kenosha Cubs opened the season with a loss against the KPPA Shockers. The Shockers posted former pro Brent Sagedal against the Cubs. Sagadel struggled the first inning giving up 2 runs then retiring the side.

The Cubs started with Jim Ruffner on the mound. Ruffner threw hard striking out 5 during three innings of play. The big lefty Kris Kamakian took the mound in the 4th inning and came into his groove after a few batters. Kamakian worked the mound through the remainder of the game retiring several batters with a strong curve and fastball.

Unfortunately the Cubs dominating bats remained silent during the game with only three hits. Cubs catcher Josh Gastaldi boomed a solid single and then tested catcher Shawn Lievense by stealing second. Lance Groat and Jim Drath both contributed with doubles.

Coach Tom Carlson chalked this up to first game jitters and vowed the CUBS will not wait until next year.

The Cubs plan to start Garett Sillanpaa against Salvi Law on Sunday. Sillanpaa has been compared to Greg Maddux in pitching style.

As the newest MSBL Kenosha team, the Kenosha Cubs are recruiting players for all positions. We need players of all levels of experience 25 or older.

In 2006 MSBL Kenosha was formed as a nonprofit affiliate of the Men’s Senior Baseball League (MSBL)/Men’s Adult Baseball League (MABL), a national organization with over 3,200 teams and 45,000 members who play organized amateur baseball in local leagues. The first year started with 4 teams, including more than 60 players ranging in age from 18 to 51. Over the next two years the league plans to expand to 16 teams broken down into several divisions.

MSBL Kenosha members are amateur athletes of various skill levels and business professions who wish to play competitive baseball. These players exhibit a special dedication to their chosen sport, as well as a commitment to contribute to the Kenosha community.
